In the Footsteps of Don Bosco
– travel of Year 11 students to Turin!
Their eyes were brimming with enthusiasm and excitement as the lads met at the Malta International Airport. Their conversations were revolving around what they expected to see and the fun this trip will be! And that’s it…a week just whizzed by as if a quick breath! An “unforgettable week”, “an amazing adventure”, “the atmosphere of the stadium was mesmerizing” and “my heart was touched by the humble beginnings of Don Bosco” were some of the thoughts shared by the youngsters as we were travelling back to Malta. It was heart-warming to sense that our youngsters did not want to leave each other and saying “goodbye” and “see you soon” was the hardest bit of it all.
The pictures speak volumes about this experience! The starry nights at Avigliana during the lively BBQ, the silent meditation on the Moncenisio Lake in France, the laughter as we walked through the porticati of Turin during the night and the long winding drivesaccompanied by loud music on the way to the Atalanta La Dea stadium will remain impressed in our memories.
An then, on top of it all, the lads were awestruck by the Eucharistic celebration with the stunning panorama of the majestic Avigliana Lago Maggiore and the mountains in the surrounding. How many times have they heard about Don Bosco throughout their years at St Patrick’s Salesian School! Oh, but this time they were just there, yes, actually where Don Bosco touched the lives of so many young people in the courtyard of Valdocco and the fields of Colle Don Bosco! They felt that now it was their turn to be so close to Don Bosco! An experience which will remain imprinted in their hearts!
The Turin trip was a real family experience as Don Bosco always has dreamt for his collaborators and young people. How can the simple yet profound evening reflections be ever erased from their memory. Guided by their educators, youngsters evaluated the gift of each day and the lessons gained.
May the joy, warmth and wisdom of Don Bosco remain always imprinted in their hearts! We thank all benefactors who have supported this educational initiative.
