Launch of the 3rd edition of the Battery Buster Campaign

Following our success in the battery buster campaign held last year, WastServ Malta decided to use St. Patrick’s as the spring board for the launch of the 3rd edition of this campaign.

Wastserv Malta entrusted our school to come up with a suitable programme to mark the beginning of the campaign.  Naturally we rose to the occasion.

Being pressed for time we met during break to pick brains for ideas.  They flowed thick and fast.  We wanted something different which made use of the staff and the students’ talents.  We opted for the silver screen.

Firstly we showed a short film explaining what led to our success in the previous campaign.  It features our students in their race against time knocking on doors and pestering shop owners in their bid to outdo the other schools.  Their efforts did not go unrewarded.  Our school managed to win the competition of collecting the largest number of used batteries.

The second part of our programme was a 20 minute film called RICIKLAGG.  This film promoted the importance of caring for the environment.  It takes place in our school where the evil villain HA LEE tries to convince the boys to waste and undermine all recycling efforts.  His ill conceived plans are foiled by his nature loving rival the super hero RICIKLAGG with the help of well meaning students.  In the end RICIKLAGG manages to convince the whole school of the necessity of caring for the environment.

The production was entirely done by the school staff and students.  The matinee was compered by RICIKLAGG himself in full superhero costume.

Chairman of WastServ, Perit Ben Farrugia commented favourably and said that this film can spread the right message more than anything they can ever say.  Both WastServ and the new sponsors VJ Salomone praised the originality and high quality of the production and thanked all the students for a very educational yet entertaining morning.
