This year we renewed our commitment towards this noble cause. Rather than rely merely on the exposure usually done by bringing speakers at school in conjunction with thematic lessons, their action took a more tangible form.
The money collected was enough to sponsor 5 dogs, two more than last year. Considering the small population of the school, this was quite an achievement.
As our beneficiary we opted again for AAA. Every little bit helps to alleviate the pressure that animal sanctuaries face daily. Most, if not all have to fork out even the money for the renting of the premises. Besides the campaign, 12 students together with members of the staff, went to visit the sanctuary to give a special treat to some of these dogs. Upon arrival, the four legged occupiers, over 100 of them, manifested their joy in realizing that there were visitors. Each visitor is welcomed by a volley of excited barks. They are not showing anger. They are just eager to go out for a walk, the long awaited walk. The students themselves were overwhelmed by the amount of abandoned dogs in such a small space. Such a great need cannot be satisfied with a one-off occasion.
The aim of the students is twofold: to renew this project annually, and to encourage other schools and organizations to follow suit and launch similar campaigns. Their little donation, amounting to Eur 150 ensured 375 bowls of food. The little from the many will make a difference.
